Hunger in America 2014

Feeding America's Hunger in America 2014 report documents the critical role that All Faiths Food Bank plays in supporting struggling families in our region. As the hub of hunger relief locally, All Faiths serves 51,800 people each year.

The study reveals that hunger in our region has no age or ethnic boundaries.

  • 67% of the food bank’s clients are white; 14% are black; 12% are Hispanic or Latino
  • 23% of clients are children under 18, while 22% are 60 or older

It shows that low wages and underemployment help drive the need for food assistance, and that people face desperate choices and poor health as well.

  • 80% of the households make $20,000 a year or less.
  • More than 60% had a family member working in the past year.
  • 68% had to choose between buying food or medicine.
  • More than half choose between buying food or paying rent.
  • 59% have high blood pressure or diabetes
  • 4,000 don’t have a refrigerator or a place to live.

Our programs help stabilize families, keep them in their homes, manage their health, and moves them toward self-sufficiency. With support from our generous community, All Faiths Food Bank can increase its ongoing efforts to provide fresh produce and meat at distributions, work towards meeting the growing demand for food, and provide nutrition education to the people here who need it most.
