Campaign Against Summer Hunger, Apr 1 - May 10

21,000 Sarasota County students (50%) are on free and reduced lunch. During the summer, when school is out, those kids, their siblings and families, may go without regular meals. All Faiths Food Bank is leading the Campaign Against Summer Hunger, April 1 - May 10, 2014, to encourage Sarasota residents to “empty their shelves” and make a cash gift so no child in our community goes hungry.

$500,000 match challenge!

Thanks to generous friends of the Food Bank, we are asking our residents to match the challenge and help us feed kids this summer. We are planning, in partnership with the Sarasota County schools, to open 45 new meal sites this summer. For the first time, we will be able to also provide a summer backpack program, as well as opening 6 new mobile school pantry sites. Sprout, our mobile farm market will add new stops along the Sprout Route.

The “Green House Gala,” hosted by Stephen and Michelle Hazeltine will be held at Hazeltine Nurseries in Venice on Friday, April 4, 2014, at 7 p.m. Corporate sponsors include Boar’s Head, Gulf Coast Community Foundation, Hazeltine Nurseries, Macrae Family Foundation, Matthews Currie Ford, Mattison’s, Spotlight Graphics, Venice Gondolier Sun, and Venice Magazine. Experience a Cooking Matters Event on Saturday, April 5

Cooking Matters is a fun and interactive nutrition education and cooking class program conducted by All Faiths Food Bank. Hazeline Nurseries will host a special free class for children and adults that features healthy snacks, beverages and activitie stations for a hands-on lesson about healthy eating and living. Come to one of the biggest food drives ever on April 12!

Saturday, April 12, 9-noon: Clear Channel Radio hosts a food drive at four Walmart Supercenter stores in Sarasota County to support the Campaign Against Summer Hunger. Sponsored by Conditioned Air, and in partnership with Hyatt Sarasota:

Food for you and food for families! Bob's Boathouse and the Siesta Key Kiwanis Club are hosting a buffet dinner that benefits the Campaign Against Summer Hunger. For a $10 donation (or more) you will enjoy a delightful buffet dinner, and 100% of the proceeds will help our kids and families in need. The dinner starts at 5 pm and Bob's Boathouse is at 5515 S. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota.

Cooking with Class is an interactive cooking party at Plantation Golf & Country Club in Venice that benefits the Food Bank. This year guests will enjoy cooking French cuisine, wine, and so much more. Although this event is a lot of fun and we are thrilled when the community comes together to support the food bank, this year we will not be co-hosting. With the increasing demand for services and our limited resources, we’ve decided to redirect our efforts to other activities that are less time and labor intensive.
