Sprout Mobile Farm Market

at Sprout Route

Sprout is a one-of-a-kind mobile farm market that brings an array of fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables to the families who count on All Faiths Food Bank for food. Sprout is a wonderful source of both nutrition and nutrition education, which encourages healthy eating choices.

Our Sprout Mobile Farm Market program runs two trucks to fourteen locations, at a total of 24 stops per month. One of our most popular programs, Sprout aims to deliver truly healthy and nutritious options for families who may need them.

If you are interested in becoming a farm or grocer able to donate fresh produce, or support the program by underwriting the cost of grocery bags, please contact Chuck Bonura, cbonura@allfaithsfoodbank.org or 941-379-6333.

Barancik Foundation Awards Grant for the Future of Fresh Produce Programs

We are thrilled to have been awarded the largest grant in our 26-year history from the Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation. The three-year grant of $626,255 will develop a sustainable produce donation and distribution system, expand the Food Bank’s Sprout Mobile Farm Market program, and allowed us to purchase a second Sprout truck.

Our Sprout Route hit the road in January 2014, and in its first year, brought more than 240,000 pounds of fresh produce to families in need. Because we are able to get produce to clients quickly with daily routes, we have reduced food waste by 90%. Grocers and local farms help support Sprout by donating fruits and veggies. Because this is seasonal, the ratio of purchased to donated produce fluctuates throughout the year. Donations to the Sprout program helps us keep the shelves stocked with healthy choices for our neighbors in need.

CMBF_Logo_PMS2925Our deepest thanks to all our donors including the Venice Yacht Club Charitable Foundation; Gulf Coast Community Foundation; Bloomberg Philanthropies; the Funder’s Network; the Tom Costello Family; Klein Foundation; Roberta Leventhal Sudakoff Foundation; Joshua J. & Eunice Stone Foundation; and Charles O.III & Miriam M.
